The Love of God

The amazing, awesome love of God.

God knew. He knows everything. Nothing is hidden from Him. He knew the end from the beginning. Nothing surprises Him.

Before God spoke light into being, hung the stars in place, and formed Adam from the dust of the earth, He knew. He knew Satan would tempt and deceive Eve. He knew Eve would eat the forbidden fruit. He knew Adam would fail the test of obedience, and willfully eat what God specifically commanded against (Genesis 2:16-17, Genesis 3:6).

God knew the sinful nature Adam and Eve displayed would corrupt all of humanity. He knew sin would separate Him from His creation, by breaking the relationship. God is holy. He is righteous. He cannot tolerate sin. He cannot leave it unpunished. The rebellion of sin deserved death (Romans 6:23). He knew there was no remedy for sin but death. Jesus, God’s only Son, came to earth, lived a perfect, sinless life, then took on Himself the punishment for our sin, through His own death. Jesus is the only hope for the world.

God knew when He made mankind, the cross would be necessary. It was the only way His creation would be able to spend eternity with Him. He knew all this, and created us anyway.

He knew each of us individually before He knitted us together. He knew every mistake we would make. He knew every failing. He knew our struggles. He knew every lie, every prideful act, every selfish endeavor any of us would carry out.

He knows us each by name. He designed each one of us intimately, for His purposes (Ephesians 2:10).

He also knew He would do whatever necessary to save us from ourselves.

Just as God personally formed Adam and Eve, and breathed life into them (Genesis 2), He personally formed each one of us (Job 10:10-11, Psalm 139:13, Jeremiah 1:5). He created us to know Him, to have a relationship with Him. He created each of us with unique gifts. He clothed us in unique personalities. He placed us in unique settings. Each of us experiences the world around us in unique ways. He created us as part of His eternal plan. He created us with purpose.

God knew we would sin–every one of us (Romans 3:23). So He planned His way of redemption. Anyone who repents and turns to God through faith in Jesus finds forgiveness. In His mercy and love, God offers eternal glory to all who turn to Him in repentance and belief.

God offers redemption, but He doesn’t force it on us. He gave us free will. He invites us to choose. By His grace, we can.

God knew from the beginning we would need a Savior. He loved us so much, He provided one. The amazing love of God yearns for each one of us to respond to the love He demonstrated for us when Jesus went to the cross. Nothing can separate us from His love.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow–not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below–indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.               Romans 8:38-39

One of my favorite verses is Isaiah 43:1b ….He has summoned me by name. I’m so thankful God knows all, and all of us. Thanks for the post, Phyllis.
