I am not ashamed of the Gospel–the Good News about Jesus Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes. The message of the entire Bible points to the Good news of Jesus. God created the heavens and the earth. He created life. As the Sovereign Creator, God has all authority over His creation. But mankind defied His authority. The devil (Satan) hates truth. Satan attacked the truth of God’s character. The devil prompted the first humans to doubt God’s word, to doubt His authority, and to doubt His goodness. Because they listened to the devil, mankind is separated from God. It’s not just Adam and Eve who sinned. Every one of us is guilty of turning away from God’s authority, and choosing our own way instead of His. The world is broken. Sin runs through the entire human race. That’s why Jesus came.
Jesus, the embodiment of truth, came to restore the relationship between God and mankind. Man’s rebellion against God deserves His wrath. Jesus, lived a perfect, sinless life, and took the punishment for our sin, so that all who put their faith in Him could live eternally in the presence of God, in all His holiness.
Our culture is divided. People are lost and confused. They struggle with identity and purpose because they don’t know truth. They listen to the wrong voices. They echo hateful rhetoric. They even resort to violence against that which is good because they don’t know the truth. People who are lost are not the enemy. The real enemy is Satan. Jesus identified the devil as a liar and a murderer from the beginning.
Satan is behind all the attacks against truth. Satan attacks all that is decent and good. God creates life. Satan tries to destroy it. Satan is a deceiver. People who are deceived stand against truth.
Evil tries to silence truth. Evil may attack truth by twisting its words. It may slash at truth with blatant lies. If someone is effective in proclaiming truth, evil kills the messenger.
Jesus taught people to recognize their sin of rebellion against God, and turn from it. He revealed Himself as the Way, and the Truth, and the Life. No one can know God the Father apart from a relationship with God the Son, Jesus. Satan crucified Him.
But Jesus rose again. He ascended into heaven. His Spirit indwells and empowers all who believe in Him and believe His words. Satan hurled evil against Jesus’s followers. But persecution only gave His disciples more resolve to speak and live the truth. And the message spread. Despite every attack against Christianity in the centuries since, Christianity continues to grow and flourish.
Truth cannot be silenced. If one proclaimer of truth is killed, others will rise in his place. This is a time to speak truth. The light of truth exposes the darkness and overcomes it. The spread of truth enables those who hear it to escape the lies of the devil.
Those who stand against truth, stand against God. God, and the prayers of His people are bigger than anything evil can unleash.
Those who love Jesus cannot be stopped. We know Who wins in the end. The devil was defeated at the cross. The devil is still slinging evil, for now, but in the end, the devil and his demons will be destroyed. Every knee will bow to the Lord of life, Jesus.
I am not ashamed of the Gospel. It is the power of God to transform people and defeat every form of evil.
For I am not ashamed of this Good News about Christ. It is the power of God at work, saving everyone who believes . . . This Good News tells us how God makes us right in his sight.
